to thoroughly supervise the work in his own department.

13.

As regards paragraph 18, I have no recollection of telling Mr. Kyshe he only did one hour's work a day. I do not believe

I did.

14.

As regards paragraph 14, when there are a Registrar and two

Deputies in a Colony like this with a trying climate it is not

at all unlikely that one or other of them should be on leave.

Inasmuch as in such case sore one is usually "acting" for the

absentee, there need be no hardship. At present, as 1 have said,

Mr. Xavier keeps the Books in the Registry as Accountant. If any one had come to complain, it would be myself, whose clerk

is doing Acting Registrar's work.

15.

As regards paragraph 15. This is, 1 regret to say,

absolutely incorrect and I cannot understand why such an as-

sertion is made. I have asked Mr. Seth in writing whether it is true, and annex my letter with his reply on the fly leaf in

which he states that the assertion is absolutely incorrect.

Having asked me to excuse him from attending personally in Court at the sittings, Mr. Kyshe now seems to consider 1 am infringing on his rights, if I am content that the Deputy Registrar should do the work. Does he suggest that the Chief Justice should be attended in the Supreme Court and Chambers by

an Officer of the Registry of less dignity than a Deputy Registrar, to enter Orders made or Summonses, or in Court take

Notes &c.?

16. As regards paragraph 16. Bere Mr. Kyshe shows clearly how

difficult a Chief Justice must find it to get on with a Registrar who can write in the strain of paragraphs 15 and 16.

As regards paragraph 17. I made the complaint when I

17.

had occasion, viz:- when the matters 1 mentioned occurred, on the morning of July 7th., when I complained to the Registrar of

want
